Established Neighborhoods Southeast of the City

Asphalt paving in Forest Oaks centers on established homes. This census-designated place in southeastern Guilford County, about ten miles from downtown Greensboro, is built around the Forest Oaks Country Club. The 2020 census counted 4,209 residents in 1,664 housing units, up from 1,252 units in 2000, and 65.5 percent of households were married couples. Most homes here are owner-occupied and well kept, and many driveways have reached the age where sealing alone no longer keeps up.

Long curved driveways

Golf-community lots often have long or curved driveways with a turnaround or a side parking pad. Curves concentrate wear: tires scrub the surface in the tightest part of the turn, and the outside edge carries more load. We build those areas with a little extra base and pay attention to edge support so they do not crumble first.

Overlay or replace

Driveways from the 1980s and 1990s are common here. If the surface is dry and cracked but still firm, an overlay with new edges can refresh it. If you see spiderweb cracking, settled areas or recurring potholes, the base has failed. We probe a few spots and show you what we find before recommending either option.

Beaver Creek drainage

Most of Forest Oaks drains to Beaver Creek, a tributary of Little Alamance Creek in the Great Alamance Creek, Haw River and Cape Fear River system. Lots slope toward the creek valleys and the course, and on many driveways water from the street runs straight down to the garage. A slight crown, a trench drain at the garage or a swale along one side can fix that during repaving.

Appearance matters

In a neighborhood like this, a clean, black driveway with straight edges is part of how the house looks from the street. After a replacement or overlay, we recommend letting the asphalt cure 3 to 6 months before the first sealcoat, then sealing every few years to keep the color even.

Roads

Joseph M. Hunt Highway (US 421) forms the western border. It and many of the roads into the neighborhoods are state-maintained, so any change to a driveway connection goes through NCDOT. Forest Oaks is unincorporated, and Guilford County handles stormwater for unincorporated areas.

Matching neighbors and HOA expectations

Some Forest Oaks streets have informal expectations about how driveways look: clean black asphalt, straight edges and no gravel spilling onto the street. If your neighborhood has an HOA or covenants, check whether they say anything about driveway materials or widening. We are glad to provide a simple plan sketch and material description for any approval request.

Forest Oaks Questions

Can you add a parking pad beside my driveway?

Yes. We tie the new pad into the existing surface and build it on the same base depth.

Water runs down my driveway into the garage. Can paving fix that?

Often. A crown, a swale or a trench drain at the garage can be built in when we repave.

How long should I wait to seal a new driveway?

Three to six months, so the asphalt can cure.

Can you provide a plan for HOA approval?

Yes. We can provide a simple sketch with dimensions and material descriptions for an HOA or covenant review.
